Google Shopping & Youtube

This feature lets you add Google Shopping product attributes as metafields in Shopify using an automatically generated form inside Bonify Custom Fields.

The key advantage of using this feature is that there is zero setup on the merchant’s part to collect valid data — all possible fields, formats, and allowed values are built in.

Values are saved to Shopify metafields, allowing connector apps like the Google & YouTube Sales Channel (or any app that can map Shopify metafields to Google Shopping fields)to sync your data directly to Google Merchant Center.

Field controls

  • Each field displays the Google attribute name.
  • The app’s form fields follow Google’s data requirements exactly — if a field accepts multiple values, has a specific format, or restricts options, it will always behave as expected without additional setup.
  • Field Settings at the bottom allow you to toggle individual fields on or off if they don’t apply to your products or if the values are being managed by another system.

Mapping to a connector app

  1. Locate the namespace and key. Next to each field’s title in Bonify Custom Fields, you’ll see the metafield namespace and key in brackets.
    • Example: Size [google_us.size] → namespace: google_us, key: size.
    • These are the exact identifiers used when mapping metafields in your connector app.
  2. In the Google & YouTube Sales Channel, go to the product feed settings or metafield mapping interface.
  3. Map each Shopify metafield (e.g., mm-google-shopping.condition.size) to the matching Google Shopping attribute.
  4. All data collected via the app is compatible with Google’s product data specifications and uses plain text metafields in Shopify to avoid formatting issues.
  5. The app ensures all values meet Google’s formatting and accepted values, reducing the chance of listing disapprovals.
  6. Note: Avoid editing Google Shopping metafields directly in Shopify outside of Bonify Custom Fields, as this may bypass validation rules.
  7. Run a test sync to verify the values appear correctly in Google Merchant Center.

Import and Export

Bonify Custom Fields supports bulk import and export of Google Shopping fields, making it easy to manage data at scale.

Exporting Google Shopping attributes

  • Go to the Export Product Fields page.
  • (Optional) Enter an email address to be notified when your export is ready.
  • Under Google Shopping, select:
    • Target Country — e.g., US.
    • Google Product Categories — select one or more categories to include in the export.
  • (Optional) Check Only export Google fields to limit the export to Google Shopping-related metafields.
  • In Additional Settings, you can:
    • Choose specific metafield namespaces to export.
    • Include product variants (may increase processing time).
  • Click Export to CSV.
  • If you select a category, the export will include that category’s attributes as columns — even if no values are set yet.

Importing Google Shopping attributes (recommended workflow)

  1. Manually add Google Shopping values in Bonify Custom Fields for one or more products.
  2. Export your Google Shopping metafields using the steps above.
  3. Modify the exported CSV file to add or update product values.
  4. Import the updated CSV back into the app using the upload form.
  5. During import, the app will validate all values against Google’s requirements and flag any issues before saving changes.

Tips

  • Choose the most accurate Google product category to ensure proper attribute generation and validation.
  • Filling in additional fields can improve your product's performance and listing approval rate.
  • Use Field Settings to hide or disable fields that are irrelevant or populated from external systems.
  • Before making bulk changes, always export your existing data as a backup.
  • The export–edit–import workflow ensures that your CSV files align with Bonify’s and Google’s expected formats.
