Translating Custom Fields using Shopify Translate & Adapt
In this tutorial, we'll show you how to translate metafields created in Custom Fields using the Shopify Translate & Adapt app. This app is available for free on the app store. It helps to localize the content on your Shopify store by letting you auto-translate up to two languages for free, and manually add as many translations as you wish.
Step 1: Install the Shopify Translate & Adapt App
- When you add a new language to your store, the Translate & Adapt app is installed automatically.
- If you already have languages published and need to install the app:
- Go to the Shopify App Store listing page and click the Install button
Step 2: Create Metafield Definitions for Custom Fields
To ensure the Translate & Adapt app can access your Custom Fields metafields, you need to create metafield definitions.
- From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Custom data.
- Select the resource containing your custom fields, such as Products > View unstructured metafields
- Click Add definition next to the namespace and key you want to define.
- Fill out the metafield definition form:
- Name: Enter a name for your definition.
- Description (optional): Provide a brief description of your metafield.
- Click Select type and choose a content type that matches your metafield values.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Manually Translate Content
Once the metafield definitions are created, you can manually translate them in the Translate & Adapt app.
Translating Content in the Translate & Adapt App
