Managing Custom Fields Data In The Shopify Interface

Overview

Using Google's Chrome browser, Custom Field data can be edited directly in the Shopify interface.

Install the Shopify App First

If you haven't done so already, you'll need to install the Custom Fields app from the Shopify app store first. Once you've activated the app, you'll be able to use this browser extension.

Add to Chrome

Install the browser plugin. Click the Add to Chrome button in the top left. Then click Add Extension.

Return to Shopify & Log In to the App

In the Shopify Admin, Click on Apps on the left sidebar. Click on the Custom Fields App. By clicking on the app link, the app will silently log you in and take you to the Custom Fields administration area. You can close this new browser tab once the page loads.

The plugin will show at the top right of the edit screen. You're now ready to edit Custom Field data.

Adjusting Edit Modes

The plugin currently provides two edit modes. The default activates on mouse hover. In the Chrome extension, under Settings, "Pinned Mode" also appears. Pinned Mode opens and closes the sidebar on click rather than hover.

Saving Changes

Scroll to the bottom of the plugin and click Save Custom Fields. The form is not connected to the save button in the Shopify interface.

Troubleshooting

The plugin relies on a third party cookie to function. Open Chrome preferences and click on Settings, then Show Advanced Settings. Under Privacy, click on Content Settings. Ensure "Block third-party cookies and site data" is not checked. Log into the app again to re-test.
